Does capitalism require that everything have a monetary value attached to it?

A recent question made me wonder whether people think that non-monetary exchange is against capitalist principles. Please discuss how non-monetary exchange relates to capitalism. You may talk about charity, altruism or any other human interaction that does not involve money. Are all of these contrary to capitalism?
