Can I get my ice maker to dump ice without hooking up a water line?

I have bad water in my home and its not something that can be ingested. Storing a bag of ice takes up space in my freezer, and I wondered if I could dump it into the ice maker storage tray and fix it so it still comes out the dispenser.
